2012 Event
Scottish Garelochhead 2 Day Marches 2012
The twelth SGM will be held at Garelochhead Training Camp over the weekend, 5th and 6th May 2012. The event will be controlled and administered by the SGM Event Committee and support staff. This event is a qualifying march for military personnel wishing to participate in the 2012 Nijmegen Marches, taking place in July 2012.
This event is open to military/cadet/civilian teams and individuals. The event is not a race; speed marching and jogging are forbidden and may result in disqualification. Participants aiming to qualify for British Military Contingent (BMC) at Nijmegen are to read the compilation of entry form instructions carefully as this information will form the basis of their entry to Nijmegen . Incomplete or incorrect entries will not be accepted and may result in you or your team failing to secure a place in the BMC.
Civilian participants are welcome to take part and use the full range of march support facilities including accommodation at a cost of £100 per participant.
The pre-registration closing date is 31st March 2012.
Accommodation and messing will be provided for all participants meeting this date.
Participants may be able to register after this date, but a flat charge of £25.00 per team will be levied.
Participants are strongly urged to consider Personal Accident Insurance whilst participating in this event. The organisers cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to items of personal or service provided kit. Participants are advised to insure all items of equipment against loss or damage.
The event will start and finish at Garelochhead Training Camp. March Start Times will be advised upon arrival.
Teams attempting to qualify for Nijmegen must complete both days marching. Male personnel between the ages of 19 and 49 year's (inc.) are to carry a 10 kg pack.
Accommodation will be available for the nights of 4th and 5th May 2012. However, participants requiring accommodation for the nights of Thursday 3rd May and Sunday 6th May 2012 are to inform the Event Controller in writing by 31st March 2012 and complete the relevant section of the entry form. All accommodation is allocated by the organisers and not by Garelochhead Training Camp.
Entry Fees and Awards.
The WO Sam Trussler Shield for the best all round team, together with medals and certificates will be presented from 16:00 hrs on 6th May 2012. The cost of entry to this years 2 Day Marches, incl. medal or certificate, is £25.00 per marcher. Support staff are not liable for any fees.

SGM medals and pins are awarded to all successful participants
General March Information.
The march follows public roads and passes through many small communities. Singing and chanting must stop when passing through settlements especially early in the morning and on the Sunday near places of worship. Teams not following this fundamental instruction will be disqualified. Refreshments : Breakfast, a container meal for lunch and an evening meal will be provided on 5th May 2012. Breakfast and a container meal for lunch will be provided on Sunday 6th May 2012. Refreshments will be available at rest areas on both marching days and there will be a cash bar for sales of hot food, snacks and drinks on camp.
